Blackbeard’s Gold: The Crossing
One clue exists, printed in 1724: nobody but himself and the devil knew where the gold was, and the longest liver should take it all. Three centuries later, every hole ever dug is empty.
The Crossing is how Blackbeard’s Gold begins when you arrive by the free Hatteras ferry: the game starts in the ferry line, closes the famous theories one by one across the 70-minute crossing, and drives thirteen miles of the last theory standing — how mother nature may have buried the treasure, one storm at a time — to the edge of his village. Free ferry. Your signal will drop mid-sound. That’s part of it.
How it plays
Act one, you take the case while you wait in line — the ferry is free, first come, first served, and the game is built to pause the second the deckhand waves you forward. Act two is the crossing: seventy minutes of open Pamlico Sound where your team closes the legendary theories — the Bath backyard, the watched islands, the island with his name on it — until only one is left, and it’s the water under your boat. Act three is thirteen miles of evidence down NC-12, ending at the edge of Ocracoke village.
In Blackbeard’s day you could have walked to Ocracoke. The inlet you’ll cross didn’t exist until a hurricane cut it through solid island in a single night in 1846 — 128 years after he died. This coast does not keep things where you left them.
The dead zone
Fair warning: your phone will lose service mid-crossing. Cell signal quits over the inlet for a stretch of the seventy minutes, then comes back on its own near the landing. The game is built for it — open the game and let your chapter load while you are still in the ferry line, keep it open on the boat, and your answers send themselves the moment the towers return.
Download the Case File (PDF) before you board — three pages of the real history under your crossing: the inlet that did not exist in Blackbeard’s day, the man who died a mile from the village, and the one sentence from 1724 this whole hunt hangs on. Save it to your phone and it reads fine with zero bars.
One $29 team pass covers the whole game — the ferry chapters and the village case, one price for the whole crew, played on your phones. Buy now, play today or any day this season.
One game, two ways in
The Crossing is the opening act of Blackbeard’s Gold — one $29 team pass covers all of it. Driving the free Hatteras ferry? Start here, in the line. Riding the Ocracoke Express, taking the Cedar Island or Swan Quarter ferries, or already on the island? Same pass — skip the ferry chapters and open the case in the village, where the hunt ends where he did.
Good to know: the game works in the ferry line without ever entering the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum — the museum tasks are optional bonus points, and the museum is closed Sundays and Mondays. Mid-crossing, cell signal drops over the inlet; the game is built for it, and your answers send themselves when the towers come back near the landing.
